WESTFIELD, Maine – Benedine C. (Ouellette) Smith, 80, passed away on August 24, 2018, at her home in Westfield. She was born in St. Francis, ME, on May 7, 1938, the daughter of Benjamin and Priscilla (Beaulieu) Ouellette.
She attended school in St. Francis, graduating from Fort Kent High School in 1956. On September 4, 1967, she married Ervin T. Smith and they raised four children. In addition to her job as a wife and mother, Benedine worked as a filer and data entry clerk for BurrellesLuce in Presque Isle for 20 years and briefly as a CNA at the Presque Isle nursing home.
Benedine is survived her husband of nearly 51 years, Ervin T. Smith of Westfield; her daughters, Mechele Welch and her husband, Michael, of Manchester, NH; Catherine Anderson and her husband, Mark, of Presque Isle; and Patricia Dean and her husband, Jason, of Caribou; a son, Peter Smith and his girlfriend, Susan Yunker, of Flagstaff, AZ; and a granddaughter, Abigail Welch, who was her sunshine on a cloudy day. She is also survived by a sister, Savanna Ouellette and her spouse, Katie Tolles, of Shutesbury, MA; a brother, Bernard Ouellette and his wife, Marian, of Phoenix, AZ; sisters-in-law, Wanda Ruxton and her husband, Matthew, of Orange Park, FL, and Marilyn Smith of Lisbon Falls, ME; as well as her nieces, Jeanne Ouellette, Tye Ouellette-Tolles, and Krystal Lee; and a nephew, Eric Ouellette. She also leaves behind a faithful companion, her cat Jack, and her special cousins, Claire Theriault and Suzie Deprey.
Benedine was predeceased by her parents, Benjamin and Priscilla, and by a special aunt, Claudette Gardner, who she loved like a sister.
Relatives and friends may call at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 1, 2018, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Parish of the Precious Blood, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Fairmount Cemetery, Presque Isle.
