JOHN O. FLEMING, LUDLOW – John O. Fleming, 88, of Ludlow, Maine, died August 26, 2018, in Bangor. He was born August 5, 1930, in Debec, New Brunswick Canada, the son of Edwin and Faye (Thompson) Fleming.
He was a former selectman and planning board member for the town of Ludlow, serving for 22 years. He was also a long-term board member of the FHA. A career farmer with land in Ludlow, Houlton, and New Limerick, he also co-owned Garden’s Best Potato Company. John liked to design, build, or reengineer things he used every day. He enjoyed his garden and puttering around the yard. He was a renowned storyteller and liked to meet up with his friends for morning coffee.
John is survived by his wife of 55 years, Bea (Faulkner) Fleming of Ludlow; four children, Stan and Shona Murphy of Littleton, Keith and Missy Fleming of Scarborough, Steve Fleming of California, and Johnna Fleming of Calais; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Marilyn Lloyd of Pittsfield; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; three sisters, Ruth, Anna, and Hope; as well as grandson, Eric Hatcher.
Friends may call from 10-11 a.m. Friday at Bowers Funeral Home, 10 Water St., Houlton, with funeral services being held at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Steve Straubel officiating. Interment will be at Ludlow Cemetery afterward. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Southern Aroostook Agricultural Museum, Littleton, ME, 04730.
