CARIBOU, Maine — Mockler Funeral Home announces the return of a local funeral director who has received her degree in mortuary science.
Idella Thompson, daughter of Dana L. and Penny Thompson, graduated Sept. 5 from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in the top five of her class.
Additionally, Thompson was profiled in the September 2018 edition of the American Funeral Director Magazine as one of 8 recent mortuary college graduates who are “ones to watch” in the funeral service industry.
Thompson returned to Caribou to resume her employment at Mockler Funeral Home, where she began her career in funeral service while still in high school. Prior to attending Worsham, she graduated summa cum laude from the University of Maine at Presque Isle, where she received the Student Leadership Award and the Outstanding Criminal Justice Major Award.
“I am very excited to return to my hometown,” Thompson said. “I am looking forward to serving our families with the same care and compassion that Mockler Funeral Home is known for, as well as adding new ideas I learned while in college at Worsham.”
In addition to her duties at the funeral home, she will stay active in the community, where she enjoys volunteering with various groups.

Worsham College of Mortuary Science, located in Wheeling, Ill., is one of the oldest and most recognized mortuary colleges in the United States. While attending mortuary college, Thompson gained valuable experience while working for a busy, well-respected funeral home in the Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago.
In addition to a very busy year, both at work and at school, on Sept. 22 she will marry Aaron Marquis. The couple will reside in Caribou.
