LIMESTONE, Maine — After nine months of searching for the right town manager, members of the Limestone Select Board have narrowed down a relatively large pool of 31 applicants down to four, according to Interim Town Manager Tom Stevens.
Stevens and the selectmen will hold a private, executive session to interview one of those four candidates at 9 a.m. Saturday.
The interim manager added, for the sake of transparency, that the officials also planned to meet with the applicant Friday night for an informal dinner. Stevens said that while absolutely no town business would be discussed during the Sept. 21 meal, it would technically count as a Select Board meeting since more than three members of the board would be present.
The search began after the selectmen fired Town Manager Matthew Pineo during his probationary period of employment last December. Police Chief Stacey Mahan stepped in as interim manager for a while before former Presque Isle City Manager Tom Stevens was hired as the next interim manager on April 17.
There is no time frame for making a selection and while there is a “short list” of four applicants, Stevens said that the board still has the option to revisit the entire pool of applicants and consider any of them for employment.
“At this point,” he said, “no one has been eliminated.”
