ASHLAND, Maine — An Ashland man has pleaded guilty to aggravated unlawful trafficking of scheduled drugs in connection with the overdose death of a Mapleton man two years ago.
In September 2016, 41-year-old David Sowers was found dead at his Griffin Ridge Road home in Mapleton of an apparent heroin overdose. An investigation conducted by Maine State Trooper Nick Casavant, assisted by agents with the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, concluded that Trevor Tompkins, 30, of Ashland, had given a heroin and fentanyl mixture to Sowers.
An Aroostook County Grand Jury indicted Tompkins in April 2017 and on September 7, 2018 he pled guilty to the charge of aggravated unlawful trafficking of scheduled drugs resulting in death, which is a Class A felony. He received a sentence of 18 years, with all but six years suspended, and will also serve four years of probations after he is released.
