Over the years, he pastored churches in Easton, Fort Fairfield, Limestone, and Mars Hill, ME. For 21 years, he was also an educator at both Pine Street Elementary, and Skyway Middle School, Presque Isle, ME. He retired from teaching in 1994, and moved to Lakeland, FL in 1997, where he continued his ministry by serving as chaplain and Interfaith Director of Skyview Estates.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Colleen Glidden Wright of Lakeland, FL, and Easton, ME; his sons, Bryan and his wife, Debra, of Presque Isle, Jeffrey and his wife, Renee, of Gorham, Michael and his wife, Carrie, of Evington, VA; and his grandchildren, Melissa Smith of Fort Fairfield, Emerson Wright of Presque Isle, Joshua Wright of Atlanta, GA, Mikalah and Emily Wright of Gorham, ME, Elijah Barnhouse and Violet Wright of Evington, VA, and his great-grandchildren, Anderson and Kiersten Smith of Fort Fairfield. He is predeceased by his father and mother; brothers, Edmund, John, Berry “Budd”; and sisters, Rose, Vera, and Rita.
He was affectionately known as “Pastor Roy.” He was an ardent student of God’s Word, sharing and teaching what he had learned.
His message was simple: sharing the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. His insights into theology and the life of Christ were as deep as his heart’s commitment to his Savior. His passion was the ministry where he hosted Bible studies and performed special services for Skyview Park. These included memorial, veteran, funeral, Easter, and Christmas. Roy was a tireless worker with a servant’s heart, always involved with activities within Skyview Park. He deeply loved his country and was patriotic to the core.
He enjoyed a variety of hobbies, including playing his guitar and singing. He was also known for his artistic painting and woodworking skills.
Above all, Roy faithfully loved and served his Lord and Savior, Jesus. His unconditional love and devotion toward his family never wavered; a constant encourager, helper, compassionate listener, and teacher of truth. He left a positive mark on all the lives he touched and will be greatly missed. He faithfully finished his earthly race and has received his eternal reward in the presence of Jesus.
The family would like to express their deep appreciation for the excellent medical attention and services provided by VITAS hospice.
