MONTICELLO, Maine — The Northern Lighthouse craft fair at the former Wellington School was the place to be Saturday to experience all things fall and winter.
During the fundraiser for the Northern Lighthouse Christmas food box drive, vendors offered a variety of goods that fit perfectly into the fall and winter season, which ties in perfectly with the group’s plans for the money.
“We provide families with food boxes and gifts for those in need throughout Aroostook County,” explained Tiffany Faulkner, CEO of Northern Lighthouse. “This is the only fundraiser we do for this project. We do between 100-150 boxes each Christmas.”
The Northern Lighthouse assists families and children that have varying disabilities and provides HCT (home and community-based treatment), case management, residential treatment, outpatient therapy, and Section 28 services to about 435 people in Aroostook County.
The nonprofit organization bought the former school building last October from the town of Monticello, which had taken ownership of the property after it was closed by RSU 29 several years ago.
Faulkner said the group plans to open an 8-10 bed residential facility for children at the property, with the hopes of offering educational classes for the children at some point down the road to better utilize the assets of the former school.
