PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Northern Maine Community College will see a busy day Oct. 12 with its open house and a ribbon cutting for the new allied health simulation center. The day will culminate with the annual Alumni Dinner and awards ceremony.
This alumni event will begin with a 5 p.m. board meeting in the library, followed by a 5:30pm reception in the Edmunds Conference Center. Dinner and awards begin at 6 p.m.
Each year the NMCC Alumni & Friends Organization honors one recipient of the Torchbearer Award for outstanding service; this year’s recipient is alumni and organization vice president Mark Bouchard. Bouchard joined the organization in 2009 and has been active ever since, including a two-year term as the organization’s president.
“I am very much honored to be selected among the elite group of recipients who have received this award ahead of me. These have been very distinguished individuals and I am honored to be listed among them,” Bouchard said of his nomination.
Originally from Caribou, Bouchard has traveled widely but has never felt compelled to move out of the County. He currently works as the business manager of RSU 39, the school district serving Caribou, Limestone and Stockholm. “I’ve never looked back,” Bouchard said of his involvement with the alumni organization.
“I do the volunteer work to give back to the college and to the community—give back what it gave me. I try to do meaningful things for the students and the college. There were volunteers that helped when I was a student many years ago and we’re simply paying it forward. It’s such a great institution, you just want to be part of it.”
