CARIBOU, Maine — Aroostook County soccer fans are going to have to wait an extra day for the matchup between the top boys’ soccer teams in Class B North.
Caribou High School Athletic Director David Wakana announced Wednesday morning that the contest between Presque Isle and Caribou, originally scheduled for Thursday in Caribou, has been pushed back to Friday at 7 p.m.
Wakana said that heavy rain is in the weather forecast for the Caribou area Thursday, forcing the game to be postponed until the following evening.
The varsity game will be played on the lower field. The JV game between the two schools will begin at 5 p.m. and be played on the upper field, according to Wakana.
Presque Isle enters Friday’s matchup as the top seed in the division with a 9-0-2 record, while Caribou is currently in second place at 9-1-1.
When the teams squared off in Presque Isle Sept. 12, they played to a 1-1 draw. Both the Wildcats and Vikings have won seven in a row since that match.
The teams will also face a quick turnaround as both have road games scheduled Saturday. The Vikings take on John Bapst at the University of Maine at Orono at 1 p.m., while the Wildcats will play in Hermon at 5 p.m.
The girls’ game between Caribou and Presque Isle is still on as scheduled for Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. at Caribou High School.
The Vikings are 5-3-3 and in ninth place, while the Wildcats hold an 8-1-2 record and are in third. The teams played in Presque Isle Sept. 11 and the match finished in a 2-2 tie.
