CARIBOU, Maine — Annalise Jandreau won the Aroostook League Middle School Cross Country Championship for the third consecutive year, while the Washburn boys and Greater Houlton Christian Academy girls both captured team titles for the second year in a row during the meet held at Caribou High School Wednesday, Oct. 10.
Jandreau, an eighth-grader on the Caribou squad, captured the victory by completing the two-mile course in 12 minutes and 57.6 seconds. She was 22.5 seconds ahead of teammate Kayley Bell, who had a time of 13:20.1.
In the girls’ team competition, GHCA tallied 39 points. PI came in second with 45, Caribou totaled 49 and Woodland had 90.
The Washburn Beaver boys scored 29 points to defeat Presque Isle (40), Caribou (81) and Woodland (87). Daniel Streinz of Katahdin was the individual champion by finishing in 12:09. Christopher Tardie of Washburn was the runner-up in 12:44.9.
After Jandreau and Bell, completing in the top 10 for girls were: third place, Teanne Ewings of GHCA, 13:51.3; fourth, Leanne Ross of GHCA, 14:12.8; fifth, Callie Sylvia of GHCA, 14:41.1; sixth, Tressa Salch of Caribou, 15:20.5; seventh, Charli Casavant of Presque Isle, 15:31.5; eighth, Elizabeth Wing of Presque Isle, 15:34.5; ninth, Amelia Donovan of Presque Isle, 15:34.6; and 10th, Rylee Sylvia of Presque Isle, 15:43.1.
Woodland’s top girls’ finisher was Saffayia Durepo, who was 13th in 16:10.2. Jaycee Carney led Washburn in 18:24.3. She placed 22nd overall.
The rest of the boys’ top 10 included: third place, George Ferland of Woodland, 12:54.2; fourth, Jonathon Staples of Presque Isle, 13:17.1; fifth, Kaiden Carney of Washburn, 13:35.4; sixth, Rogan Carney of Washburn, 14:21; seventh, Evan Brown of Washburn, 14:32.5; eighth, Caleb Green of Presque Isle, 14:36.2; ninth, Seth Lister of Caribou, 14:49.1; and 10th, Charlie Peers of Presque Isle, 14:57.6.
Leading the way for GHCA was 17th-place finisher Aimon Simoes in 15:43.5.
Forty two girls and 48 boys competed in the race, which was held in cool temperatures and under cloudy skies.
