MONTICELLO, Ga. – Duane Meredith Wardwell, age 85, of Monticello, passed away Monday, October 8, 2018. Duane Wardwell was born in Perham, Maine, to the late Garfield Wardwell and Dorothy Blackstone Wardwell.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Francine Horton Wardwell.
He married Cherry Warren in 1993, and in 2000, they moved to Jasper County. He worked as a Marine Mechanic and after retirement, he worked part-time for B&B Marine in Jackson.
Duane served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Frederick, Maryland, and later, in Gwinnett County, Georgia.
He is survived by his wife, Cherry Warren Wardwell of Monticello; children, Robert Brian (Becky) Wardwell of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Cynthia Jean (Harry) Chastain of Jefferson; stepchildren, Freda (Greg) Pittman of Newborn, James Edward Cole, III of Monticello, Katie (Bob) Caron of Monticello, and Autumn Brownlee of Monticello; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sisters, Rosalie (Jim) Doughman of Vincennes, Indiana, and Marilee Conroy of Caribou, Maine.
Funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 11, 2018, at New Rocky Creek Baptist Church, 190 Rocky Creek Road, Mansfield, Georgia 30055. Interment was held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 11, 2018, at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, 1832 Pleasant Hill Road, Duluth, Georgia 30096. Dr. Randal Reese will officiate.
The family received friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 11, 2018, prior to the service at New Rocky Creek Baptist Church.
