Rotary Club
The Mars Hill Rotary Club met Oct. 9 at 6:30 a.m. at the Aroostook Health Center. The guest speaker was Tim Crowley, Presque Isle Rotarian and the president of Northern Maine Community College.
He has been with the college for 30 years, becoming president in 2002. He has seen many changes at the college through the years and is very appreciative of all the support from the community.
Challenges for all schools include finding new ways to educate students, both those who are local and those from out of state. NMCC is working to be able to educate students in the classroom as well as online at other sites. Many folks work full-time, but still want to continue their education. Online classes would enable them to take their classes at a time that works for them.
New programs at the college include mechanized logging, a 12-week certification class that teaches students to work with the newest technology. Water treatment is the newest program to become available at the college.
The Nursing Program has a $1 million simulation center that enables students to experience many different scenarios they may encounter during.
Crowley also urged folks to carefully consider supporting the upcoming bond issue that supports the community colleges.
