PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Scouting for Food, a “national good turn for America,” began in 1985 to help combat hunger by having Scouts collect food donations in their communities for local food pantries and cupboards.
Presque Isle Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts have participated in this annual project for the past 30 years, and will continue the tradition by distributing collection bags on Saturday, Oct. 27, beginning at 10 a.m. The boys will include a flyer with suggestions of food items needed.
Scouts will return the following Saturday, Nov. 3, beginning at 12 noon to collect the donations.
Donations will go to the Grace Interfaith Food Table (GIFT) pantry, located on Industrial Street in Presque Isle, where there is always a need for food items.
If community residents do not receive a bag for a donation, they can bring items directly to GIFT on Nov. 3 from 12-2 p.m.
