Support my husband for sheriff

To the editor:

I would like to share my personal endorsement of my husband, Matt Irwin, for Aroostook County Sheriff.  Matt and I have always loved Maine – I spent summers at a cabin built by my grandfather near Sebago Lake and Matt explored Maine on cross-country motorcycle trips.  During our honeymoon in Maine, we got in the car and headed north. We immediately fell in love with Aroostook County — a positively gorgeous place with a small town feel that has everything you need, but not more! It was time to make our dreams of living in Maine come true. Matt became the police chief in Presque Isle, we purchased our home and became entrenched in our community. We have enjoyed everything about living in Aroostook County — we were not born here, but as the saying goes, “we got here as fast as we could.”

Matt identified inadequacies within the law enforcement community that he feels passionate about resolving.  We did not enter the sheriff’s race for selfish reasons; in fact, it has brought personal sacrifice. Matt is offering The County an opportunity to benefit from his experience and innovative thinking. His plan for collaborative efforts to maximize our limited resources is only scary to those afraid of change. My husband is committed to analyzing systems to save your tax dollars, improve law enforcement services and find a “Better Way for the County.”
