PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – Mary Martha Buckley, 77, went to the Arms of the Lord on Sunday, October 21, 2018, at the Aroostook Medical Center. She was born on August 5, 1941 in Bath, New Brunswick, daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. Thomas E. Nugent.
A lover of music and lawn furniture, Martha played the piano, bridge and lent her voice to many a church choir. Her storytelling was legendary and she was active in the Daughters of Isabella at St. Mary’s Church. Martha was also a graduate of St. Mary’s Hospital in Montreal and was a registered nurse. Martha was very proud that she maintained her professional nursing license for her entire life.
Martha is survived by her husband of 55 years, Edward Buckley of Presque Isle; six sons, Edward Peter Buckley of Portland, Andrew, Joseph and Ryan Buckley of Presque Isle, James Buckley of Long Beach, California and Tom Buckley of Portland; two daughters, Marci Alexander and her husband, Troy of Augusta and Katie Buckley Grant of Moncton, New Brunswick; five grandchildren, Connor and Griffin Buckley, Erin and Iris Alexander and Annabella Grant.
Martha was predeceased by a son, Paul Sean Buckley; two brothers, Peter and Thomas Edmund Nugent and her son-in-law, Christopher Grant.
One of 12 children, Martha loved visiting her family in Bath, New Brunswick each Christmas and spending summer days at the family cottage on Grand Lake; her sisters, Margaret-Ann, Pappy, Tommy, Mary, Cookie and Bridget; brothers, Jimmy, Robby, Peter, Paul, Bill, and their families meant the world to her and filled her life with joy. She was also very close to her in-laws, Joe and Margaret Markey of Colorado, Lee and Sue Whitely of Grand Lake Stream, Bill and Sue Ann Buckley of Bangor, and their families.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 25, at St. Mary’s Church in Presque Isle. Family and friends may call at Graves Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. On Wednesday, October 24, 2018. For online condolences please visit www.duncan-graves.com.
