Local quarterfinal round girls soccer games were postponed Wednesday as the first significant snow of the season blanketed Aroostook County.
The top-seeded team in Class B North, the Presque Isle Wildcats, will now play No. 8 Brewer at 5 p.m. Thursday at the Gehrig Johnson Athletic Complex in Presque Isle.
The No. 2 Houlton girls were slated to host No. 7 Orono in a Class C North quarterfinal. That game will be played Thursday at 5 p.m. in Houlton. If the Shires field is not suitable due to the snow, the game will be played on the artificial turf in Presque Isle at 7:30 p.m.
The Class D North quarterfinal between No. 5 Katahdin and No. 4 Southern Aroostook also is postponed. That game will be played Thursday at 3 p.m. in Dyer Brook. However, if the Warriors field is not playable, the game will be moved to Presque Isle for a 2 p.m. start.
Another D quarterfinal pitting No. 1 Central Aroostook against No. 9 Bangor Christian will be held at 3 p.m. in Mars Hill. If the field isn’t ready, the game will move to Presque Isle and be played at noon.
The Class D girls’ matchup between No. 10 Fort Fairfield and No. 2 Ashland also was postponed and will now be played at 4 p.m. Thursday in Ashland.
In Class B, No. 5 Caribou’s game against No. 4 Medomak Valley of Waldoboro is still on for Wednesday but will now be played at 3 p.m. at Lincoln Academy in Newcastle.
