DELTONA, FLA. – Katheryn Virginia Monson, 96 of Deltona, Florida passed away October 13, 2018. Mrs. Monson was born October 15, 1921 in Norridgewock, Maine to Vernon and Madelyn Clement. Kay had a wonderful life. She was elegant, beautiful, gracious and married her soul mate. Earl was her light.
Kay started her career during the war working in the shipyard. After the war she had the position of dining car hostess on the B&A railroad. Her route was from Boston, Massachusetts to Fort Kent, Maine. It was during this time she met her soul mate, Earl Monson. The crew would layover in Caribou, Maine. On one layover she was coming down the hotel steps and waiting at the bottom was Earl. She told him the other hostess was not on this trip. He told her he was there to see her and take her for breakfast. All he remembers were those ankles coming down the steps. He invited her to dinner for Saturday night. At dinner he proposed. Monday she accepted and they were married three weeks later on September 23, 1949.
She owned a clothing store, High Fashions. Later on she managed their restaurant Char-Co Chef. At retirement they purchased a motorhome and traveled to the 48 states over several years. Their final destination was Oviedo, Florida. After Earl’s passing she lived with her daughter Dierdre. Kay and Earl did everything together. Their favorite hobbies being oil painting and dancing from big band, ballroom, disco and line dancing. She took art classes at the college and was a member of the Pierian Art Club.
Kay was predeceased by her husband, Earl Monson; her parents, Vernon and Madelyn Clement; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Vernice Clement Stubbs (Frank), Daphne Clement Russell (Russ), brothers, Avon Clement, Dwain Clement, Ellery Clement. She is survived by sister and brother-in-law, Audrey Clement Beane (Herbert); brother, Eugene Clement; and three children who adored her, Dierdre Dianne Monson, Gregory Earl Monson and (Catherine) of Orlando, Florida, Judith Ellen Monson, Delaware. She is survived by five grandchildren, Melanie McGrath, Dierdre and (Jack) Gregory, Robbie and (Heather) Massie, Catherine and (Kenny) Natsake, and Stephanie Jo and (Sean) Denez; nine great-grandchildren; and nine great-great grandchildren; and special nieces and nephew, Bruce Beane, Diane Grant, Dawna Beane and Susan Beane.
A gathering will be held in the spring at the VA Cemetery in Caribou, Maine for Kay and Earl.
