LIMESTONE, Maine — Members of Limestone’s Select Board unanimously voted Wednesday night to appoint Paul Beaulieu, who served as the town’s manager in the early to mid 1990s, as interim manager.
Beaulieu, who is retired, is a military veteran with years of experience in the education field.
The selectmen made their decision to appoint him “for the time being” after roughly one hour in executive session. His duties officially started Nov. 1, and his first meeting as interim town manager will occur on Wednesday, Nov. 7, the day after the election.
The community has been without a permanent manager since December of last year, and has appointed both Police Chief Stacey Mahan and former Limestone and Presque Isle municipal manager Tom Stevens during the interim. Stevens’ last day was Oct. 23.
Limestone recently received 31 applications for the position of a full-time manager, and have significantly narrowed down the pool.
Selectboard Chairman Tom Albert said on Oct. 31 that while the board cannot provide specific details about their progress, such as when a new manager would be hired, he and local officials are working diligently to hire a permanent manager.
