Margaret McKnight Merritt

HOULTON, Maine – Margaret McKnight Merritt, 95, passed away at Madigan Estates Nursing Home on the morning of Monday October 29, 2018. She was born at Cary Plantation on April 1, 1923, the daughter of Victoria and Elias McKnight.
Margaret lived her entire life in Houlton, working until she reached retirement age. She was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd. Margaret was active in the Rebeccas and was honored to be Noble Grand at least once. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She raised her daughter by working hard and living frugally.
Margaret is survived by her daughter, Lucille Merritt Porter of Jay; her grandson, Jeffrey Gentle and his wife, Faiza Kracheni, of Austin, Texas; as well as a nephew and five nieces. She was predeceased by her mother, father; her sister, Dorothy Williams; and brother, William McKnight.
