TOPS (week of November 7, 2018)

The Houlton chapter of TOPS met Friday, Oct. 26, at the Aldergate building on Kelleran Street. Ten TOPS and three KOPS members attended.

The loser of the week was Marsha Reed and the runner-up was Cheryl Driscoll. Brenda Lacostic won the 50/50 and Diane Folsom won the skinny dish. Denise Clark won the health basket.

The fresh fruit and veggies are just about over now, so I can’t wait to see the ingenious things our members come up with during the winter months. Finding the healthy and tasty foods is what makes our basket fun.

Denise Clark gave the program on “Pay attention to the cholesterol.” High cholesterol is hard on your arteries, thereby decreasing blood flow. The article mentioned eating 8 ounces of fish, especially salmon, each week. Go lean and less dairy. Avocados can be good for you, so try using a sliced one on a sandwich or salad or maybe mashing it for a very healthy dip.Nuts can be added to a salad or just enjoy them as a healthy snack. Just be sure to check the serving size on the package or can.

Thank you Dee, for this informative program.

Barbara Troy led us in our regular exercise program. We all need this every Friday, so thank you, Barbara.

We’d like to have you join us in our healthy life journey. Come feel the support and encouragement we all need to continue striving toward our goal: feeling better about ourselves.

Call me, Pam Richardson, at 538-8760 for more info or directions to our meeting.
