CARIBOU, Maine — Six Cary Medical Center hospitality employees recently completed an eight-week Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Technician (CHEST) certification course.
John Albert, Mike Belanger, David LaBreck, Cathy McDonald, Andrea Sirois and Colleen Sutherland received certifications.
This class covered all areas of environmental services from hospital disinfection to patient satisfaction, and was established using a wide-ranging, nationwide exploration of a healthcare environmental services technician’s responsibilities and duties. The program covers all aspects of a front-line worker’s everyday tasks and accountability.
“Through proper care and maintenance of the hospital environment, our hospitality staff play an essential role in patients’ overall care at Cary, as well as ensuring patient safety and satisfaction,” said Micah Desmond, director of support services at Cary.
“As a team, we strive to go beyond cleaning and disinfecting. We work hard to create a clean and quiet healing atmosphere. Additionally, we are making a positive impact on infection rates, quality of care and positive patient experience,” said Desmond.
“In order to attain these high quality results, the hospitality staff must be well-trained and demonstrate capability in a number of crucial areas. I am extremely proud of our hospitality team’s accomplishments and their dedication to excellence here at the hospital,” he said.
