Catholic women meet – week of November 5, 2018

The Houlton Council of Catholic Women met on Nov. 5 for their monthly meeting.  There were 13 members present.

President Sue Hardy led the group in opening prayer, salute to the flag and cross and hymn.  After a blessing, a luncheon provided by the November committee was enjoyed by all.

Following the luncheon, Hardy called the meeting to order.  The secretary’s report for October was read by Secretary Kathy Klein.  Jane Mitchell, treasurer, gave the treasurer’s report. Alta Reardon, corresponding secretary, read thank-you cards. Historian Jane Stile presented information from 1948 when St. Mary’s School PTA was formed.  Also, in 1954, HCCW members made a wardrobe for a doll for a Christmas sale.

In other business, donations were made to various worthwhile causes.  Items from the animal shelter donations were on display. Mary Grant and Jane Stile will deliver the items to Houlton Humane Society and Ark Animal Sanctuary.

Jane Mitchell and Kathy Klein will continue to lead the Rosary at Madigan Estates and Gardiner Nursing Home on the third Monday and Friday each month.

Our annual Christmas potluck and Yankee Swap will be held at our December meeting.

Members are selling raffle tickets on a Christmas wreath decorated with 50 $1 bills.  Tickets will be available before and after Masses on Nov. 25 and Dec. 2 and also at the Christmas Craft Fair on Dec. 8 at St. Anthony’s Hall.

Birthdays and anniversaries for November were noted.  Prayer intentions were collected and Deacon Al led the group in prayer.

The door prize was won by Mary Grant.

Our next meeting will be on Dec. 3 at 5 p.m. in the Parish Center.  All Catholic ladies are invited to attend.
