CARIBOU, Maine — Next year, the city of Caribou will receive a total of $173,981 from neighboring communities as councilors approved fire coverage contracts with three towns as well as eight ambulance service agreements during a Nov. 13 council meeting.
The fee for fire coverage jumped up by two percent, as it is based on the total population of each municipality in addition to the number of expected runs. It also is significantly higher than the ambulance contracts, as the city also receives compensation for EMS services via patient medical fees.
Connor Township, New Sweden, and Woodland have both fire and ambulance contracts with Caribou. Connor’s fire contract is set at $29,078 and its EMS contract at $5,244. New Sweden’s fire contract for 2019 will be $35,459 and its ambulance fee will be $6,923. For Woodland, the fire contract will be $64,301 and the EMS contract $13,950.
Washburn, according to the council packet, has requested EMS services from Caribou for next year, with its contract set to $9,700.
Other EMS contracts are Perham at $4,439, Stockholm at $2,909, T16 R4 at $1,265, and Westmanland at $713.
