ASHLAND and HOULTON, Maine – Rose Marie Bushey, 93, passed on November 9, 2018, at Madigan Estates in Houlton. She was born in Van Buren on May 30, 1925 to Patrick and Laura (Franck) Bouchard.
She grew up in Fort Kent at her parent’s business, Bouchard’s Restaurant on East Maine Street, where she worked and met her husband. After their marriage, they lived in Ashland and built and ran their own restaurant and a clothing store on Main Street. They eventually sold the restaurant and just ran the store, Bushey’s Clothing, which Rose ran until she retired and sold in 1992. Rose drew customers from near and far with her clothing
selections and her friendly and fun loving personality. In the late 1990s she moved to Houlton to be closer to family. She was a devoted, lifelong Catholic, avid reader, crossword puzzle solver and untiring worker at her store and home. Her family will always remember her for jumping up to offer others her seat no matter their age even when she was in her 90s and going home at 11:00 to “have lunch with Bob” as she referred to watching her favorite TV show “The Price Is Right.”
She was predeceased by her husband, Wilson Bushey; sister, Patricia Martin; and brothers, Lucian and Richard Bouchard.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol Bushey of Bangor, and son, John Bushey and wife, Susan of Houlton; grandson, Ryan Bushey and wife, Kathy, of Houlton; and great-grandchildren, Emily and Jacob. She also leaves many special nieces and nephews.
As Rose wished, there will be no service. Those wishing to honor her memory may donate to the Ashland Community Library in Ashland or the Cary Library in Houlton.
