The Husson University Eagles women’s basketball team features three players on its roster who starred at the high school level for Aroostook teams.
Mackenzie Worcester and Joan Overman were teammates on the four-time state champion Washburn Beavers, both graduating in 2015, while Emily Wheaton played for the very successful Presque Isle program under coach Jeff Hudson.
Worcester is a 5-foot-4 senior guard at Husson, majoring in physical therapy. She has collected many accolades during her first three seasons. Worcester was the Most Valuable Player of the North Atlantic Conference tournament every year. She started all 85 games and totalled 1,397 points entering her senior season. She has made 84.4 percent of her free throw attempts.
Overman, a 5-8 junior guard-forward, started 26 of 29 games last season, averaging 5.1 points and 3.4 rebounds. She started eight games as a freshman and did not play her sophomore season due to injury. She also majors in physical therapy.
Wheaton is a 5-5 freshman from Mapleton, majoring in elementary education. She was a 1,000-point scorer at Presque Isle High School and was a first-team All-Maine player who led the Wildcats to the Class B regional championship finals as a senior.
The Eagles are off to a 2-1 start and begin conference play Nov. 30 with a game at Northern Vermont-Lyndon. The three players return to Aroostook County for NAC contests against the University of Maine at Presque Isle Jan. 4 and 5 at Wieden Gymnasium.
