PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Presque Isle Middle School girls’ cross country team ended up as the runners-up in the Aroostook League this fall. 

The team, coached by Kim Wright, placed second out of six teams at the league championship meet. The Wildcats had four girls finish among the top 10, led by Charli Casavant, who was seventh overall out of a field of 42 runners. Elizabeth Wing, Amelia Donovan, Rylee Sylvia and Raegan McCormick finished in consecutive order in the eighth through 11th slots.

Wright said 12 of the team’s 16 runners posted personal-record times in the meet.

The Wildcats placed either second or third during each of the regular season meets. Greater Houlton Christian Academy was the team champion, finishing only six points ahead of Presque Isle at the championship competition Oct. 10 in Caribou.

Wing was named the team’s Most Valuable Runner, while Donovan was selected as Most Inspirational. Lariah Langley was Most Improved and Sylvia was the Rookie of the Year.
