Woodland’s Select Board tables plow truck consideration

WOODLAND, Maine — Woodland Select Board members decided Monday night to delay a decision on whether to replace the town’s plow truck.

Woodland town clerk Janet Schofield said that the three members of the Select Board tabled the plow truck issue at a special meeting Monday, Nov. 26. Schofield said the plow truck decision will likely again be discussed during the next board meeting scheduled for Dec. 18.

The town’s officials have been considering whether to trade in the current 2009 plow truck for a 2004 truck that has better fuel mileage and a better engine.

The current 2009 plow truck has experienced a range of problems, including motor problems, and runs on about 2.5 miles per gallon, Select Board member Will Barnum said at a previous meeting.

The town has been using the 2004 truck eyed for purchase under loan from Freightliner Maine. The company is offered to sell the town the 2004 truck through a trade-in that would cost $35,000.

Though older, the 2004 plow truck has a fuel efficiency of more than 4.6 miles per gallon and is in overall better shape, Woodland Public Works Director Chris Fournier said previously.
