CARIBOU, Maine — Parts of the St. John Valley saw up to 10 inches of snow from a storm that moved through the state Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, the most snow from fell in St. Francis, where spotters recorded 10 inches on the ground. Elsewhere in The County, trained NWS spotters reported 9.5 inches in Sherman, 7 inches in Grand Isle, 4.1 inches in Presque Isle and 2 in Houlton.
In Penobscot County, 7 inches of snow was reported in Millinocket and 6 inches in Stacyville. Bangor picked up 2.3 inches.
In Piscataquis County, the storm dumped 9.4 inches on the community of Blanchard, 9 inches in Greenville and 8 inches in Parkman.
On Wednesday, meteorologists at weather service office in Caribou said that the total snowfall for the month was up to 30.5 inches. That made it the third snowiest November on record to date. The snowiest November ever took place in 1974, when 34.9 inches was recorded, followed by 33.2 inches in 1949.
It is the fifth snowiest November on record at Portland, according to the National Weather Service in Gray. The city has picked up 15.9 inches thus far this month. The snowiest November on record in that city was in 1921, when 24.3 inches fell, followed by 22.6 inches in 1898.
An intense low pressure system redeveloping off eastern Nova Scotia Wednesday evening will bring gusty northwest winds and snow showers to Aroostook County Thursday, with storm force winds over parts of the Canadian Maritimes.
Most of The County is expected to see another inch or two before Thursday morning.
