PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — An 18-year-old driver escaped major injuries Wednesday morning after his car crashed into an unoccupied home on Park Street in Presque Isle.
Jordan Scott was driving with a juvenile passenger south on Wilson Street around 8:15 a.m. when he said the brakes on his 2002 Mustang failed to work as the car approached the stop sign at the intersection with Park Street, according to Presque Isle Police Patrolman Tyler Cote.
The car couldn’t slow down, crossed the intersection and crashed into the side of an unoccupied home at 23 Park Street, Cote said.
Scott was transported to Northern Light A.R. Gould Hospital with minor injuries, while the passenger was not harmed, the officer said.
The crash “caused significant structural damage to the dwelling and totalled the car,” Cote said.
Cote said the incident remains under investigation. The car was registered and insured, he said.
The car later was removed from the scene and the damaged portion of the home was covered up with wood panels, Cote said. No one is currently living at the home.
