LITTLETON, Maine – A tip from a concerned citizen lead U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents to uncover a Honduran national illegally in the United States, according to the CBP.
A tip from a local residents led agents assigned to the Houlton Border Patrol Station to pull over a vehicle near Littleton on Dec. 18 and arrest one U.S. citizen and one Honduran national, according to a press release on the CBP website.
The Honduran national, Gustavo A. Diaz-Diaz, did not possess any immigration documents that would allow him to legally be, or remain in the United States. The U.S. citizen, who was not identified by CBP officials, was driving the vehicle and told CBP agents that he was in the area to pick up Diaz-Diaz.
“With the current focus on our southern border, it is easy to forget that the United States also shares an international boundary with Canada,” said Houlton Station Acting Patrol Agent in Charge Jodi Williams. “This incident speaks not only to the vigilant work of our northern border agents, it also highlights the strong working relationship that we have with the ever-observant public.”
The Office of the United States Attorney for the District of Maine is handling prosecution of the case. No further information was made public.
