Wreaths Across America Honors This Friday

Judy Kenney from Maine-Agri Women reported an overwhelming turnout for the Wreaths Across America ceremony at Southside Cemetery on December 15th.

She said Maine Agri-Women wish to thank all the volunteers and supporters of the Wreaths Across America ceremony at the cemetery.   There were approximately 200 attendees at the ceremony. Maine Agri-Women appreciates the respect and honor shown for the veterans who served our country and are no longer with us.

Judy especially wanted to note that a 98-year-old veteran from Houlton came up to be a part of the day. He was honored and many people stopped by his car and congratulated and thanked him for his service.

Christopher Nelson, a Presque Isle Middle School student, played “Taps.”  When he finished, many folks went over to thank him for playing. He said he was honored to be asked and that Saturday was the best day of his life.

For those interested in the readings and script of the ceremony, they can be found on the Wreaths Across America website.

Because of the success and support of Maine-Agri Women’s first two wreath events, they will be considering where they will hold their 2019 ceremony.

First Friday lunch

The monthly First Friday Luncheon will be held at the Mapleton Methodist Church Jan. 4 at 11:30 a.m. This luncheon will be special as it is the first luncheon of the year; 2019 will be the 14th year for these monthly luncheons.

The chefs have promised a “good fortune luncheon” to start the new year. The real joy is sharing a meal with longtime friends as well as making new friends, sharing family updates, stories and memories.

There is no charge for the lunch, but donations will be accepted.
