Fort Kent hosts first alpine races of the season

FORT KENT, Maine — Alpine skiers finally were able to compete for the first time this season as Lonesome Pine Trails hosted high school teams in slalom races Saturday.

Local skiers leading the way in the boys’ morning race were Bryant Grass of Central Aroostook in ninth place in 1:25.19. Aiden Plante of Caribou was 11th in 1:26.75 and Ryder Wight was PI’s top performer, placing 19th in 1:30.6.

Grass was 10th in the afternoon race, compiling a time of 1:28.14. Kyler Caron of Presque Isle was one slot back in 1:28.96. Tiernan Barbosa paced Caribou, taking 14th in 1:31.61.

For the girls, Eleanor St. Peter of Presque Isle ended up eighth in the morning race in 1:35.49. Maren Moir of Caribou, in 1:37.45, came in 11th.

In the afternoon, Caribou’s Edie Shea was 11th in 1:40.48. St. Peter was 12th in 1:41.33.

Fort Kent came in first as a team in all four competitions.
