PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Akeley Gallery of the Mark and Emily Turner Memorial Library in Presque Isle recently received a renovation that library officials hope will create a more open environment and encourage people to check out current and future art exhibitions.
Last week the Portland Glass Company installed two new glass sliding doors at the entrance of the Akeley Gallery, located on the first floor of the library past the main entrance. Library director Sonja Eyler credits the library’s artist-in-residence, Cliff Boudman, with forming the idea to make the gallery more visible to patrons.
“The doors we have now are see-through and slide open, which allows people to see what’s beyond the doors and make them more likely to visit the gallery,” Eyler said.
The Akeley Gallery is currently displaying the exhibition “See Us Now: Reimagined and Exquisite,” a collection of local and Maine-themed art pieces that have been donated or that the library has acquired through its own funds in past years. The exhibit runs until March 22.
