CARIBOU, Maine — The Relay For Life of Aroostook’s annual kickoff celebration event will take place Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2019, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Cary Medical Center in the Chan Center.
Light refreshments will be served during the social, which begins at 5:30, with a program to follow at 6:15. The event leadership team will provide updates on the 2019 event and local speakers will share their stories and battles with cancer. Giveaways from local merchants and businesses will be raffled off.
“This is an excellent opportunity for past and current teams to come together, learn about the upcoming event, and begin to work together to raise money for a cause that is close to all of our hearts,” said Jordyn Madore, event co-lead. “By opening up the event to the community for the first time, it’s also a great way to raise awareness for the event and hopefully gain new participants and teams.”
This year’s Aroostook Relay For Life will take place June 22. From 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., survivors, families, friends and caregivers will walk or run laps on the track, relay style, to raise funds to support free programming for cancer patients and families as well as research.
In 2018, Relay for Life events helped the American Cancer Society provide 456,000 free lodging services, one-on-one peer support, 340,000 free rides to treatment, and receive over 1.2 million phone calls providing information and support through the free 24/7 call center.
