Emera Maine prepares for weekend winter storm

BANGOR and PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — As northern and eastern Maine brace for a winter storm expected to bring wind, snow and ice to the region, utility officials are working to ensure resources are in place to safely repair any resulting damage to the electrical system.

In addition to a full complement of internal crews, contract crews and tree crews, Emera Maine is bringing in additional personnel from out-of-state to ensure restoration work is completed as quickly as possible, according to a press release the company issued Friday, Jan. 18.

“Our storm team will continue to monitor the forecast and make adjustments to ensure we’re ready when the storm lands,” said Nathan Cota, Emera Maine storm manager. “With heavy snow predicted and the possibility of icing in the Down East region, we’re making sure we have equipment in place and staff prepared to respond throughout our service territory.”

With the storm system and extreme cold in the forecast, customers are urged to:

  • Get sufficient supplies of food, fuel, batteries and all needed prescriptions.
  • Be sure generators and space heaters are properly installed and well ventilated.
  • Make a plan for where to shelter if an extended outage prevents safe heating of your home.
  • Abide by travel advisories.
  • Check on your neighbors.
  • NEVER touch a downed power line or a tree in contact with a line.

If you see a downed line or anything that looks unsafe, report it to local authorities and call our Customer Contact Center at 1-855-EMERA-11 (1-855-363-7211) or 207-973-2000. If you require assistance finding shelter, call 211.
