PI Middle School student reflects on Earth Day

Aroostook County has forests, farmland, lakes, rivers and ponds with animals living there. Wouldn’t it be sad to see the area disappear? Then the animals would disappear. What about farmland? We need farmland for crops. If we didn’t have farmland, what would the farmers grow? How about lakes, rivers and ponds? Fish is protein. If they disappear, what would the ducks and geese eat? And what would we have for a water supply?

On a regular basis, my family, friends and I try to protect Aroostook County’s beauty and preserve its natural resources. My friends and I have a club called Save the Earth. We pick up bottles and trash in the ditches and send the money to Caribou for the veterans. My family is cutting back on going into town to only once or twice a week.

Go camping instead of wasting electricity. Go hunting instead of playing video games about hunting. Always hunt your limit though. Canoe the rivers instead of using a motorboat. Don’t use windmills, use the power of nature. Snowshoe because it doesn’t involve any gas to pollute the air and cause global warming.

Even the smallest kids could help. They could pick up bags on the side of the roads. Parents could cut down on going places or to town every day. Ride a bike, or just go for work or necessary needs. Everyone should do their part. The more people who participate would save more than just a few people. It would also make our county more beautiful than it already is and make it a better place to live.

We should all take part in this because it would save our natural resources that we have so few of. It would save our animals and preserve Aroostook County’s beauty. That is why we all should do our part.
