FORT KENT, Maine — Director Caryn Cleveland Short of the UMFK Theater Troupe will hold auditions for a spring production of the play “To Kill a Mockingbird,” based on the classic novel by Harper Lee. She is also seeking crew members to help out with the show.
“It was my favorite book, growing up. I loved the movie. It is also a great play,” Cleveland Short said of selecting “To Kill a Mockingbird” for her next production. “We need a reminder that when hate and bigotry run amok, we all lose.”
Cleveland Short is seeking a diverse range of actors of all races and ranges of acting experience for the play, including two boys and one girl between the ages of 8 and 13 years old, seven women and eight men. There are also roles available for those who wish to deliver only a few lines and those who wish to appear as non-speaking extras in the play.
Those who enjoy theater, but for whom the spotlight may not be up their alley, can also participate in “To Kill a Mockingbird” by volunteering as crew members, working backstage on technical elements or props.
Auditions will take place on Tuesday, Jan. 29, and Wednesday, Jan. 30, at 6 p.m. at the University of Maine at Fort Kent Fox Auditorium.
The show will take place April 11-14.
