Councilor thanks public for input

To the editor: I would like to take this time to thank each and everyone of you who turned out Monday evening (Jan. 28).

Furthermore, in regards to the members of the current council, I am fairly certain that each councilor serves with the best intent and tries to represent the constituency that elected them.

Each council member brings to the table different thoughts, opinions and yes, even prejudices. These differences in many ways can form a better body as a diversity of views are more likely represented.

Speaking solely on my behalf with regards to the department head confirmation of (Houlton Police Chief Tim) DeLuca, in the few years that I have known the chief he has been nothing but approachable, helpful, reasonable and most importantly professional.

No person has brought to my attention any substantiated evidence or data that would have made me not vote to confirm Chief DeLuca as the department head of The Houlton Police Department.

I know this may not have been the consensus of the entire council, but based on what I (we) actually know, my only vote was in the affirmative with regards to confirmation.

Lastly, I would have liked to have seen each department head confirmed unanimously. Certainly our department heads are hard working and dedicated to their position, the Town of Houlton and most importantly, the citizens they serve.
