Sumner boys use big 4th quarter to defeat Fort Fairfield in C North prelim

EAST SULLIVAN, Maine — The Sumner Tigers defeated the Fort Fairfield Tigers in a hard-fought Class C North prelim played Thursday to earn a trip to the tournament.

Sumner trailed by a point (45-44) entering the final quarter, but outscored the visitors by a 26-14 margin in the fourth for the 70-59 victory.

Eighth-seeded Sumner is now 12-7 and will play No. 1 Central Aroostook in the quarterfinals at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

The No. 9 Fort Fairfield squad also finished with a 12-7 record.

Sumner held a 19-13 lead after the first quarter and was up at intermission, 31-25.

Junior center Simon Torrey led the winning offense with 27 points and Colby McLean netted 21.

For Fort Fairfield, Colby Langner netted 20 points and Dawson Watson added 18.
