PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – Lynn Turnbull, RN, MHA, vice president of nursing at The Aroostook Medical Center, has been appointed to the Maine State Board of Nursing by Governor John Baldacci. Turnbull will be the only Aroostook County representative on the board.
Betty Kent-Conant, a nurse educator at Northern Maine Community College and a member of The Aroostook Medical Center Board of Trustees, represented Aroostook County on the board until her term expired on April 14. Kent-Conant had served on the board since 1999.
Turnbull, an Aroostook County native, has held various nursing leadership roles at The Aroostook Medical Center since 1994.
She received a bachelor of science in nursing degree from the University of Southern Maine; a master’s degree in healthcare administration from Kennedy-Western University in Cheyenne, Wyoming; and a certificate in management from the University of Maine at Presque Isle. She is a member of the Organization of Maine Nurse Executives, American Organization of Nurse Executives, the Nursing Advisory Committee at Northern Maine Community College and the University of Maine at Fort Kent and the Presque Isle Kiwanis Club.
The Board of Nursing’s mission is to protect the public health and welfare in the area of nursing practice.
The board achieves this by developing standards and issuing licenses to Maine nursing professionals.
The board is responsible for taking disciplinary action against nurses when required. It also reviews and endorses nursing education programs and reviews changes to rules and regulations pertaining to nursing.
Nine professionals representing nursing education, nursing services, long-term care, advanced practice nursing and the community comprise the board.
The Aroostook Medical Center is a member of EMHS. Members of EMHS share best practices and ongoing quality initiatives to improve access to quality care at the local level.
