HOULTON, Maine — During their Feb. 25 meeting, councilors approved an agreement for a road project that will be completed in the fall and accepted a donation to benefit area children.
During the brief meeting, councilors OK’d a construction area agreement between the town and the state Department of Transportation.
Chris Stewart, the town’s public works director, said the road work on Route 1 will start start this summer at the urban compact line by Tractor Supply Co. and continue north about 2.2 miles to the town line.
Councilor Sue Tortello asked Stewart if he knew exactly when the project would begin, but he was not sure.
“I think that there is an end date of October, but I don’t know a beginning date,” he said.
He added that he believed there will be at last 2 inches of asphalt going down during the road work project.
In other business, the councilors accepted a donation of $853.15 — proceeds from the Katahdin Trust Company’s annual Wild Katahdin Trust Snow Run. The money will benefit the Just for Kids Playground Account. Councilors thanked Katahdin Trust Company for the donation.
Councilors also conducted customary business by ordaining that taxes are due and payable when rendered and no later than Oct. 15, 2019. Delinquent taxes will bear interest at the rate of 9 percent per year from Oct. 15 until paid in full. Ttaxes in excess of the final assessment shall be repaid from the date of overpayment at 5 percent interest.
