Truck pull raises funds for teams

The Washburn Rotary Club would like to thank the sponsors and everyone who came to the truck pull on July 7. This is a major fundraiser for the group, and the weather couldn’t have been better. The crowd was good, and the 50/50 netted $533 toward the funds needed to purchase warm-ups for the cross country and track teams. Thanks again to all who helped make this event a success.

August Festival

The August Festival Committee met last week and are almost ready to send the brochure to the printers. So, if you have something you want to include in it, please contact Cindy Boot

Organizers are looking forward to some old and some not-so-old favorites such as the Alumni Banquet, movie night with “How To Train Your Dragon,” bluegrass groups, parade, car show, antique tractor pull, Tim the Tune Man, high school soccer games, the craft fair and many more fun things to do. This year planners are especially anticipating the Firemen’s Muster and firefighters’ participation in the parade. These guys can be very “alarming,” so you may want to bring your earplugs! See you there — Aug. 17-19. Please check out our Facebook page: Washburn Maine August Festival, August 16-19, 2012.

The contacts for various event committees are as follows: Food vendors — Dennis Harris, 455-8279; Alumni banquet — Diane Gabriel, 764-0955; Arts and crafts — Paul Carter, 455-4714; Road Race — Mike Waugh, 551-9008; Car show — Wade Thurston, 762-6441; Historical Society — Dennis Harris, 455-8279; Firemen’s Muster — Troy Heald, 455-0903; and Parade — Cindy Boot, 455-8464 — looking for help with this event!
