    EASTON & MARS HILL – Fred Tompkins, 85, passed away Sunday, July 22, 2012, at a Mars Hill health care facility. He was born December 8, 1926, in British Columbia, Canada, the son of Harvey and Pearl Tompkins. Fred worked for many years for area farmers and could be seen many times parked on Main St. in Mars Hill sitting on his moped.
    Fred is survived by his brother, Guy of Westfield.
    In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Willard; and a sister, Gladys.
    Funeral services took place 1 p.m., Thursday, at the East Ridge Union Church with Pastor Lawrence Beals officiating. Friends called from noon until time of service at the church. Interment will take place following the service at Estes Park Cemetery in Easton.
