    The Washburn Rotary Club met on Wednesday, July 25, at the Municipal Building. Several awards and recognitions were presented. This year’s officers include: President Cindy Richendollar, Vice President Andy White, Secretary Charlotte Griffin and Treasurer Dennis Harris.

    PEGGY SMITH was named a Paul Harris Fellow at the Washburn Rotary Club meeting on Wednesday, July 25. She was recognized by Rotarian Larry Harrison for her contributions to the Washburn club.

    A SPECIAL SHIRT was presented to President and “World Traveler” Cindy Richendollar, right, by Secretary Charlotte Griffin at the Washburn Rotary Club meeting on Wednesday, July 25. Cindy has traveled to Australia on a Rotary Friendship Exchange and has gone to the Dominican Republic twice to work on Rotary water projects. 

 

Basketball tournament

    On Aug. 10, a three-on-three basketball tournament will be held at the Washburn High School beginning at 4 p.m. for ages 15 and under. Competition for those age 16 and up will begin at 6 p.m. This event will showcase the talented local players and alumni. Proceeds will benefit the WDHS Boosters’ Club. Entry fee: ages 15 and under, $25 per team; and $50 per team for ages 16 and up. Contact Ron Ericson at 455-4501 for more details.

 

August Festival

    Plans are all set for this year’s festival. See you there, Aug. 17-19. Please check out the Facebook page “Washburn Maine August Festival, August 16-19, 2012” for more information. Brochures are also available at various places in town.

 

Antique tractor pulls

    As part of Washburn’s August Festival events, there will be antique tractor pulls on Sunday, Aug. 19. Registration begins at 9 a.m. at the Washburn Trail Runners Snowmobile Club’s parking lot. Pulls begin at 11 a.m.

 

Historical museum

    The Salmon Brook Historical Society has open hours at the Benjamin Wilder Homestead Museum and the Agricultural Museum on Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m., and on Wednesdays from 8 to 11 a.m. There is no admission charge and very interesting exhibits are available for the public to see.
