Sold — The Madigan farm on the North Road has been sold to Frank Taylor through the A. O. Briggs Agency.
Buying trip — Mrs. Charlotte Wakem Burtt left last week for New York City to purchase her spring and summer stock.
75 Years Ago – Mar. 23, 1944
In school activity — Miss Mary Lou Benn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Shirley Benn of Hodgdon, a student at Becker Junior College in Worcester, Mass., will be a member of a specialty team participating in a minstrel show to be produced by the college glee club next month.
Business trip — Mrs. Harold Chadwick returned by plane Wednesday from a few days’ business trip in Boston. While there she attended the New England Flower Show.
50 Years Ago – Mar. 19, 1969
50th anniversary — Members of the Chester L. Briggs Post No. 47 American Legion and its auxiliary entertained over 80 guests Sunday at a baked ham dinner at the Legion home on Pleasant Street in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the American Legion. Cutting the anniversary cake was Mrs. Virginia Merritt, seventh district vice president of the auxiliary, and Austin Durgin, commander of the post.
Maine takes top award — A staff member of the Promotion Division of the State Department of Economic Development received a plaque presented to the state for having the best multiple booth exhibit in vacation/dtravel at the American and Canadian Sportsmen’s Vacation and Boat Show in Cleveland, Ohio. There for the presentation were: Maine Game Warden Lawrence Caron, Sea-Shore Fisheries Warden Roger Allen, John P. Coffey Jr., DED staffer, Donald M. Bryant, show president, who made the presentation, Maine State Police Officer George W. Graves of Troop F, and Edward C. Werler, district supervisor for the Maine State Park and Recreation Commission.
25 Years Ago – Mar. 23, 1994
Wheels away — Rollerama proprietors Lisa LaPointe and Brian Doody cut the ribbon during a ceremony held prior to last Thursday’s grand opening at the North Road rink. There for the ribbon cutting was: Town Manager Lewis Bone; Nancy Ketch, Chamber of Commerce executive director; Marguerite Lawler, chamber president; LaPointe, Doody, Town Councilor Joyce Fitzpatrick and Robert Reece of the Retail Trade Board.
MPA Principal’s Award — Jana Nason, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Terry Nason of Linneus and a senior at Hodgdon High School, has been selected as the recipient of the 1994 Maine Principal’s Award. The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, is given in recognition of Jana’s excellence in academics, extracurricular activities and school citizenship.
