HOULTON, Maine — On Tuesday, March 26, at 6 p.m., Community Living Association and Danforth Habilitation Association will host a free showing of the movie “Intelligent Lives” at the Temple Theatre in Houlton.
The film follows three young adults with disabilities who change perceptions of intelligence as they make their way through life.
“’Intelligent Lives’ is a catalyst in transforming the label of intellectual disabilities from a life sentence of isolation to a life of possibility for the most systematically segregated people in America,” said the film’s director, Dan Habib.
Lynette Young and Rob Moran, CEOs of DHA and CLA, felt bringing the film to Houlton would help to promote the mission of both agencies which is, in part, bringing the highest quality of life to people with disabilities. “The film shows what people with disabilities are capable of,” said Rob Moran.
CLA and DHA are two of the area’s biggest employers with well over three hundred employees between them. The agencies have a combined mission of enriching and helping develop the lives of people with disabilities to the fullest. Both agencies have been in business for decades with DHA over 30 years and CLA recently hitting their 50th anniversary.
“We hope to get a great turnout for this wonderful, inspiring movie,” said Young.
