PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — One year after opening a location in Presque Isle, the owners of Boulevard Graphix are keeping busy and growing with the addition of a sign business.
Boulevard Graphix, the business of Joey and Lianne Lapierre, recently acquired the Sign Place from the Cowett family, who purchased that business in 2016, but are now focusing on their Caribou-based landscaping business, North End Landscaping & Stone Supply.
It’s a move that expands the Lapierre’s reach and scope providing all things graphic design to customers in Maine and beyond, said Joey Lapierre.
“It’s a specialized thing. We weren’t focused on signs. We made a part of the shop dedicated to signs. There is a big market for that,” Lapierre said.
“We’ve got all their equipment, sign materials, and customer files. We can turn this into something a little bit bigger.”
Despite the relatively small population in Aroostook County, there is a large diversity of both small and large businesses and organizations that need graphic designs and displays.
“We’re growing,” Lapierre said. “It’s really exciting that we were able to buy another company and bring it into our shop. Ultimately, what we do is help other businesses grow.”
Originally from Van Buren, Lapierre grew up in Florida, studied drafting and design, and ran a custom automobile business in the Sunshine State before returning to northern Maine and opening Boulevard Graphix in Limestone in 2008.
Today, the business operates the production space in Limestone and a shop on Main Street in Presque Isle that opened in May 2018. Joey Lapierre works full-time on the business with the help of his nephew Jamie Burns, while Lianne Lapierre helps out and also works in another job.
“It’s going pretty well. We’re always busy. There’s never a slow moment,” Joey Lapierre said.
In addition to the new business of signs, Boulevard Graphix specializes in vehicle wraps, embroidery, screen printing and decals. Their customers range from businesses and local police departments to individuals and school districts, including the new travel bus for the Valley Unified Regional Service Center featuring photographs of the St. John Valley by Paul Cyr.
The Lapierres recently purchased their own transit van to do deliveries and are planning a one year anniversary customer appreciation day in May, with a date to be determined, that will feature vehicle wrap demonstrations, Lapierre said.
