115 Years Ago – April 1, 1904
Employee — Miss Hortense Miller has leased the office occupied by Miss Mary Riley as public stenographer. Miss Miller will also do work for the public and give lessons to anyone desiring to learn. Miss Miller has been employed at Ft. Fairfield as stenographer in the law office of H. W. Trafton for the past two years.
School reopened — The Aroostook State Normal School has reopened with 35 regular students, and 13 of which number are new pupils, who passed the required examination. Quite a number of teachers will enter as pupils as soon as their terms of school close, which will be in a few weeks. The progress of the school is very encouraging in every particular. Miss May Gould is now the teacher in music and drawing.

Attending auto show — F. F. Harrison and Morris Peabody have been in Boston during the past week – attending the Auto Show.
Returned from business — E. L. Cleveland and Bernard Archibald returned Saturday from Augusta, where they had business before several legislative committees.
75 Years Ago – March 30, 1944
Red Cross drive over — With a last-minute spurt that raised Houlton’s contribution more than 25 percent higher than its quota, the local Red Cross War Fund campaign this morning was revealed to total $10,297. The amount sought was $8,000. Contributions known to be coming in soon will probably raise the total above the $10,500 mark.
50 Years Ago – March 26 1969
Honored on birthday — Forty-three relatives gathered at the Grange Hall in Monticello for a birthday dinner given for Ashley Brewer in honor of his 70th birthday. Mr. Brewer received a sum of money and lovely gifts from friends and family members.
Seeking new manager — Town Council Monday night voted to begin advertising for a person to be manager of the Houlton International Airport, and at the same time agreed to consider a possible ordinance that would establish an airport advisory council. Richard Biegger, executive director of the Houlton Regional Development Corporation, told Council that a group interested in the airport has been conducting regular meetings, and that the creation of the advisory council was a result of these meetings.
25 Years Ago – March 30, 1994
For the heart — Madigan Estates Administrator Brenda Brown Habrle presented a check in the amount of $1,413 to Patsy Rutkauskas, field manager for the American Heart Association. The two were in front of Madigan Estate’s giving tree, which holds heart decorations representing each $10 raised for the AHA.
Winner named — Kentucky Fried Chicken announced the winner of Rossignol skis through Pepsi/Mountain Dew’s special promotion recently. Frank Beaulieu was presented the skiis by Debbie Flewelling, service coordinator of Kentucky Fried Chicken.
