Presque Isle Future Business Leaders of America chapter reaps awards at convention

Future Business Leaders of America chapter members at the Presque Isle Regional Career and Technical Center captured a number of honors at the recent state convention in Portland. PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Students in the Presque Isle Regional Career and Technical Center’s Future Business Leaders of America chapter attended the annual state FBLA convention in Portland from March 17-19.

Twenty-three students competed against seven other schools and brought home several medals.

Libby Kinney and Mayce Kinney each received a first-place award in the Publication Design category.  

Madison Hedrich received the FBLA state Outstanding Freshman of the year award in honor of her leadership skills and the many community service hours she has acquired. Kimberly Hemphill, adviser of the Presque Isle Regional Career and Technical Center’s FBLA chapter, nominated her for this award.

Second-place winners were: Taylor Hedrich: Impromptu Speaking and Personal Finance; Gavin Hemphill: Public Service Announcement and Local Chapter Annual Business Report; Colby Banville: Public Service Announcement; Meghann Collins: Marketing; Molly Kingsbury: Business Plan and Electronic Career Portfolio; Clara Kohlbacher: Management Decision Making; Alana Legassie: Marketing; Libby Moreau: Management Decision Making and Marketing; Alec Staples: Public Service Announcement; and Anna Trombley: Management Decision Making.

Third-place honors went to: Kaci Bates: Public Speaking; Harleigh Brewer: Graphic Design; Catherine Butterfield: Political Science and Graphic Design; Ethan Cassidy: Entrepreneurship; Kacie Chapman: Chapter Activity Display and Sales Presentations; Clay Gregg: Entrepreneurship; Molly Kingsbury: Accounting I; Clara Kohlbacher: Future Business Leader; Riley Roderick: Entrepreneurship; and Anna Trombley: Securities and Investments.

Madison Hedrich received the Freshman of the Year Award. Local chapter adviser Kimberly Hemphill nominated her, and judges chose Hedrich from eight nominations.

Hypnotist Bruce James performed at the event, powerfully demonstrating the power of the mind and leaving the audience amazed.

Chris Jones, a creative systems administrator at L.L. Bean, was the motivational speaker and emphasized that leadership is such a huge part in personal growth and students need to experience this.

“The students represented Presque Isle very well their professionalism and kindness they portrayed to adults and students while attending the annual FBLA convention,” Hemphill said.

The organization helps develop competent, aggressive business leadership skills in young people and encourages the confidence of students in themselves and their work.
