Annual Town Meetings

In late March, the towns of Mapleton, Chapman and Castle Hill held their 2018 annual town meetings.

On March 18, Mapleton held their election and town meeting at the Mapleton Lions Hall.  The voters approved the 28 articles that authorize the town administrative and finance functions.  Additionally, voters elected Josh Cheney and Matt Gregg to three-year terms as members of the select board. Also Josh Cheney was elected assessor for a term of three years and a sewer district trustee for a term of three years.

The Town of Castle Hill held their annual meeting the following evening, March 19, at the Castle Hill Grange Hall.  With Robert Vigue moderating the meeting, voters authorized approval of the 27 articles that related to the town’s administrative and financial functions listed in the meeting warrant.  Voters elected Maylen Kenney and Gerald McGlinn as three-year members of the town’s select board. Shari Cheney was elected to the three-year term of town assessor.

On March 25, the Town of Chapman held its Town Meeting at the Chapman Ridge Runners Snowmobile and ATV Club.  Voters quickly authorized town administrative and financial functions found in the 28 warrant articles, and also elected Isaac Braley to a three-year term as select board member/assessor.

Approval of the warrant articles in each town including the approval of the budget appropriations for the three towns’ operations.  The budgets can be found at the website: www.mapleton.me, or at the Mapleton-Chapman-Castle Hill Town Office.

There is an Interlocal Cooperation Agreement for the sharing of mutual services between the three towns.  The agreement calls for a Joint Select Board that administers a Joint Budget. Information on this budget is also available from the town office.

Towns recognize club

A highlight of town meeting season came at the Chapman event, when select board member Pat Sutherland read a resolution adopted by board members from the three towns recognizing the Chapman Ridge Runners Snowmobile and ATV Club.

The resolution thanked the club for their almost 40 years of service and dedication to the three communities.  Specifically the club was cited for annually grooming 41 miles of snowmobile trails for winter use and mowing and repairing summer trails for ATV use.

The recognition included appreciation for use of the Ridge Runners’ clubhouse for both municipal and personal use, and the hosting of a number of community events.  Select board members expressed their appreciation for the club’s contributions to enhancing the quality of life in the three towns and to making them even more attractive and welcoming.

Pat Sutherland presented the signed resolution to Mickey Maynard, who is the current and longtime president of the Chapman Ridge Runners Snowmobile and ATV Club.  The Maine Snowmobile Association named Maynard the 2018 Groomer of the Year. This resolution was used to dedicate the Joint Town Report.

First Friday lunch

May flowers are getting ready to bloom as soon as the snow finishes melting. The monthly First Friday Luncheon will be held Friday, May 3, at 11:30 a.m. at the Mapleton Methodist Church.   Spring will be in full swing and the chefs will are planning a spring surprise luncheon.

Who knows what chefs will prepare, but everyone will be thankful to get out of their houses into the warmer weather to join everyone for the meal.

The real joy is sharing a meal with longtime friends as well as making new friends, sharing family updates, and telling stories about all the snow we had this winter.   Remember, there is no charge for the lunch, but donations will be accepted.
